HEALTHY AND AFFORDABLE FOOD CHOICES

The Interregional Academy of Personnel Management has leased property on campus to food providers and has outsourced their food provision. At present, 5 canteens and cafes are open simultaneously on the IAPM campus during the entire academic year.

There are a number of demands to them. For example, the usage of certified products has been incorporated as one of the criteria for selecting contracted vendors. The academy also requires food suppliers to give preference to local and organic foods. All dining halls must serve fresh meals with a nutritional balance every morning, lunch and dinner. The Academy also adheres to the approved recommended average daily food set for students.

The mandatory requirement from the Academy for all canteens is also to publish the calorie information for meals available at campus restaurant and cafeteria.

One of the main criteria for selecting food providers is an affordance of food choices. In Kyiv, the average cost of a set meal is about 250 UAH (approximately 5.5 EUR). The Academy covers part of the cost of meals, allowing students to pay only 22% of the total cost of meals. For example, a lunch in the canteen can cost students about 53 UAH (1.2 EUR). The Interregional Academy of Personnel Management also has a special discount system for employees, which can significantly reduce food costs. The discount on meals is also part of IAPM's broader policy of supporting employees, which helps to strengthen the corporate culture and increase employee loyalty to the institution. According to the current conditions, faculty and staff can receive a 50% discount (125 UAH (2.5 EUR)) on a set lunch in the IAPM canteen. The rest of the amount, which is half the cost of the lunch, is compensated by the Academy, which demonstrates the social support of its employees.

These requirements establish a convenient access for students and staff to purchase fast, quality food during breaks, with a variety of options in all educational buildings.

In order to ensure food safety and enhance source monitoring for campus food, the Academy has established a Commission for the management of food quality and canteens which meets periodically to examine the quality of food and pricing policy across all canteens and cafeterias. The Commission also supervises marked with an expiration date on every food item and product.

The Commission conducts regular sampling and analysis. IAPM monitors food prices across all campus food outlets to ensure that meals remain affordable for students. The Academy also evaluates the overall quality of food provided on campus.

The Commission, together with the quality assurance staff, takes into account student feedback collected through a chatbot developed by the Academy. This approach allows for a comprehensive assessment of food quality. The Commission regularly provides recommendations to all stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of consistent quality control.
