Research Center for Environmental Safety and Sustainable Development in partnership with the Holosiivskyi District State Administration coordinates of the Rehabilitation Plan for the River Lybid and Sovski Lakes near the Academy's campus through the Academy's Research and Information Network. These initiatives aim to address the water quality problems of the Sovski Lake and River Lybid in partnership with local authorities, as well as students, scientists, industry and the public. The Interregional Academy of Personnel Management conducts monitoring of aquatic ecosystems to assess water quality, identify sources of pollution, and promote effective measures for the prevention and reduction of pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities. Together with the Kyiv region administration, the IAPM organized practical training (under the guidance of Associate Professor Tamara Chornoshtan) for young people to develop skills in analyzing environmental situations, planning environmental protection measures, namely on water security as it is necessary to implement positive changes in their region.
Researchers and environmental specialists of the IAPM monitor the current state of the reservoirs in the Yagotyn area, which is currently unsatisfactory and on the verge of an environmental disaster. The problems of the reservoirs arose due to the lack of regular silt removal, insufficient funding from local budgets and government agencies, and the negligent attitude of the tenants to natural resources.
The discussion focused on two main reservoirs - Lakes Velykyi and Malyi Supii. For many years, these lakes have not received the necessary maintenance: no silt removal or dredging was carried out, which negatively affected their ecological condition. Instead of systematic maintenance, the lakes were leased to private companies that used barbaric methods of water exploitation.
Private tenants often resorted to the practice of completely discharging water through sluices, which allowed them to easily catch fish. Such activities led to serious consequences, including the siltation of natural springs in the lake, lowering of the water level, and massive deaths of fish, crayfish and fry. These processes have caused a catastrophic drop in the water table in wells throughout the Yagotyn and Zguriv districts, affecting the lives of local residents.
Researchers and environmental specialists of the IAPM research other factors that contribute to the drying up of the Velykyi and Malyi Supii lakes. One of the main reasons is the blocking of water inflows upstream, in the so-called Cherkasy Pond, by private leaseholders. This factor, coupled with uncontrolled tree cutting and climate change, is leading to further deterioration of the environmental situation in the region.
Activists, environmentalists, teachers, and students of the IAPM expressed their desire to take concrete actions to improve the condition of the reservoirs in the Yagotyn district. The group also plans to work with local authorities, environmental activists and NGOs to develop a strategy for preserving the region's water resources.
The group plans to hold regular practical measures for monitoring and addressing problems to problematic environmental areas, develop environmental projects and actions aimed at improving the environment. The aim of such activities is not only to preserve the water resources of the Yagotyn district, but also to develop a responsible attitude to nature and environmental awareness among the younger generation.
This is an initiative that deserves support and further development. Involving young people in environmental issues is a step towards preserving natural resources for future generations.
Lake Supii is a natural center of biodiversity. The Lake has a great importance for maintaining the ecological balance of the Kyiv region. Various species of waterfowl, fish and aquatic plants live here. In addition, Lake Supii is critically important for ensuring water security in the region. Therefore the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management carries out regular monitoring of aquatic ecosystems to evaluate their condition, detect pollution sources, and support actions aimed at preventing and reducing all types of pollution, particularly those originating from land-based activities.
The IAPM, in cooperation with the Kyiv region administration, undertook the organization of environmental actions to clean up the territory, plant trees, or create information materials for city residents, to help young people realize their own responsibility for preserving the local environment. Such initiatives for the development of civil society activity in the field of water security in the Kyiv region.

IAPM scientists cooperate on water security with the Council of Young Scientists at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management.
IAPM signed a memorandum of cooperation on water security with the Sea Ports Administration of Ukraine.
IAPM and the Sea Ports Administration of Ukraine agreed to carry out joint meetings, round tables, trainings, guest lectures, workshops. The establishment of cooperation with stakeholders on water sucurity was also discussed.
The memorandum also provide internships for students from IAPM at the Sea Ports Administration of Ukraine. These internships devoted to preparetion students to become future water security specialists.
