In 2024, the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management (IAPM) provided direct scientific consulting and applied research support to the Ukrainian engineering company PTS Ukraine LLC, based in Brovary, Kyiv Region, which specialises in the development and manufacture of environmentally friendly urban public transport vehicles (electric buses and trolleybuses with autonomous driving capacity). This initiative was implemented through the Academy’s International Centre for Innovation Transfer and Digitalisation, whose researchers offered expert consultancy and laboratory testing to improve the company’s energy efficiency and integration of renewable sources of power.
During 2024, researchers and postgraduate students of the IAPM developed a hybrid solar-charging system for public electric transport, enabling the use of solar energy to recharge battery modules for trolleybuses with independent range. The research combined principles of renewable energy conversion, photovoltaic integration, and energy-efficient storage management.
The pilot system was tested at PTS Ukraine’s production facility and included recommendations on reducing energy losses, optimising battery charging cycles, and integrating solar power into industrial operations through distributed generation.
This partnership demonstrated a practical model of knowledge transfer and capacity building between academia and local industry. The consulting team prepared technical documentation, conducted a series of training workshops on energy efficiency assessment and clean energy management for PTS engineers, and developed proposals for replacing diesel-powered auxiliary units with solar-battery systems. The activity directly supported regional transition to low-carbon urban mobility and helped advance Ukraine’s green recovery agenda.
